摘要:

In this talk, we focus on analysis of business workflow executions (enactments) through *explorations* of business data in the form of ad hoc queries. The traditional ETL-data warehouse-OLAP approach tackles essentially a similar problem. However the types of data to be queried about and explored are limited to the data extracted by hard-coded ETL tools and stored into the data warehouse. Any changes (such as new data, new tasks, etc.) would demand at least modifications of ETL tools so that analysis remains accurate. In contrast to the traditional approach, we develop a new framework for business analytics based on workflow logs with support for ad hoc queries directly on logs. Using a simplified logical model for workflow logs, query languages are developed to formulate query conditions on task executions

as well as data manipulated by tasks. We also discuss further technical challenges.

His current work focuses on modeling and analysis of business processes concerning compositions and management. His work on data with nested structures, web services, and data-centric workflows is widely known and cited. Dr. Su was a recipient of 2007 & 2008 IBM Faculty Awards. He was a keynote/invited speaker for several workshops/conferences in web services. He served/is serving on program committees of many conferences in databases (e.g., PODS, ICDT, VLDB, ICDE, etc.) and service oriented computing (e.g., ICSOC, BPM, CooPIS, etc.).
