From January 27-20, 2018 to February 25, a Hangzhou-China-Australia Adelaide visiting group composed of 19 Hangzhou-China students embarked on the road to study in Australia.

On January 27, 2018, from winter to summer, from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere, we flew over more than 8000 kilometers to vast Australia. When we first arrived in Australia, we felt the warm atmosphere like the local weather. Before the visit, our impression of Australia may only be lovely kangaroos and koalas, and indigenous people wearing leaves. However, after living there for 30 days, we found out that there were not only kangaroos and koalas, but also needle moles, Australian wild dogs, platypus, kangaroo and bags. Moreover, there are almost no indigenous people wearing leaves. People with various skin colors can be seen in the street. It can be described as a diversified city with strong inclusiveness.

The University of Adelaide is the destination of our visit. It is located in Adelaide, South Australia. Adelaide is Australia’s fifth metropolis, originally colonized by Britain in 1836. It has become the first free colonial city in Australia. It is a quiet, beautiful city with a little rural flavor, but without losing the modern and artistic atmosphere. Speaking of Australia, the first thing you can think of is the Sydney Opera House, the capital of Melbourne. Most people have hardly heard of Adelaide, but when you are on the scene, you find that it is a magical city.

The course of this visiting project is to study skills. 19 students are divided into three classes according to their English Test level, and each class is taught in small classes, each class is divided into 4-5 groups to study. The classroom atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. Each class focuses on how to improve research skills to carry out different forms of learning. The teacher only acts as a guide to give full play to the students’ learning initiative. The environment of all-English teaching is also a challenge. At first, students were shy and did not dare to speak, but after a month, their English level rose sharply, and everyone spoke English, there are no more obstacles to living in Adelaide.

Another feature of this visit is that students stay in boarding families. In addition to all English in the classroom, after-school life is more localized. When you go to school, you take the bus and train. Everyone downloads Google map and local bus software, and you go out by information navigation. In my spare time, my family will take students to different places, participate in different local activities and feel the different cultural atmosphere. Another feature here is to bring your own lunch. Every day, the family or the students themselves will take the lunch to the school and heat it with a microwave oven. Unlike the canteens in domestic universities, all Adelaide from primary school to university are implemented with the lunch system.

Adelaide in February is the annual local art festival, and the whole Adelaide is boiling. We have seen the largest number of Adres in history. All kinds of shows and large-scale performances dazzled people and all kinds of delicious food gathered on the streets. In addition, the school also organized three cultural tours: Safari park, beach tour and coffee tour, and got a full understanding of Australian Customs. February is also the Spring Festival in China. It is especially unforgettable for students who celebrate the new year for the first time. Our group also carefully recorded the blessing video to wish the motherland more and more powerful, the better the Hangzhou power, and the health of the family.

The 30-day visit not only enabled students to learn textbook knowledge, but also a cultural journey. It can be described as the perfect combination of “reading thousands of books is not as good as traveling thousands of miles. Only when they went abroad did the students realize the strength of the motherland more deeply. We are not only here to learn knowledge, but also the disseminators of culture, like the local people to pass on Chinese culture and invite them to travel to China. Only communication can achieve the goal of peace and development.
