The college of computer science and technology was developed based on the undergraduate computer major established in 1980. The first batch of undergraduate students majoring in computer application began to be recruited nationwide in September 1980, and the postgraduate students majoring in computer application technology began to be recruited in 1981. The department of electronic computers was established in May 1984. In July 2000, to meet the needs of the rapid development of information science, a computer college was established. In July 2001, with the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, the first software college of Zhejiang Provincial University was established based on the computer college. The software college was established independently in July 2002. In October 2004, the computer college and the software college are merged to form a new computer college. In December 2009, the school decided to set up a software engineering college based on the software college. On March 11, 2015, the computer college and the software engineering college were abolished and a new computer college was established. At the same time, the school of software was established, and the school of computer and the school of software were jointly run as “one team, two brands”.

The computer college obtained the right to grant master’s degree in computer application technology in 1993, the right to grant master’s degree in computer software and theory in 1998,  the right to grant master’s degree in engineering in two fields of computer technology and software engineering in 2003,  the right to grant master’s degree in the first-level discipline of computer science and technology and the right to grant master’s degree in the computer system structure of the second-level discipline in 2005. Computer application technology became a provincial key discipline in 2000, computer software and theory became a key discipline of the former Ministry of Information Industry, and computer science and engineering became a key discipline (Category A) in Zhejiang province in 2004. Computer application technology became the most important subject in colleges and universities in Zhejiang province in 2008 and obtained the right to grant a doctor’s degree in the first-class subject of computer science and technology in 2009. In August 2011, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, software engineering obtained the right to grant a master’s degree in the first-class discipline. In January 2012, relying on the first-level discipline computer science and technology, two additional second-level disciplines outside the catalog were added: Internet of Things Technology and Digital Media Technology (enrollment begin in 2013) in July 2013, our college became the only authorized the first-class discipline of computer science and technology doctoral degree in Zhejiang province and enrolled doctoral students in 2014. In January 2016, Zhejiang province was selected as the first first-class discipline (Category A) in the 13th Five-Year Plan. In September 2019, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Postdoctoral Management Committee jointly approved the establishment of postdoctoral research mobile stations in the first-level discipline “computer science and technology”. On December 2017, the degree and postgraduate education development center of the Ministry of Education announced the results of the fourth round of discipline evaluation nationwide, computer Science and Technology won B + (top 10%-20%) in China, ranking first among Zhejiang universities. In 2017, the latest discipline ranking of China Science Evaluation and Research Center ranked 24th among 281 similar disciplines in the country, entering the top 10% of the National Computer discipline. In May 2018, the ranking of Computer Science achieved a historical breakthrough, entering ESI’s top 1% in the world for the first time, and ranking 1% out of 409 research institutions in the top 369th in the world, ranked 45th among mainland universities.

At present, the college has two undergraduate majors: Computer Science and Technology (1980) and Software Engineering (2003), of which “computer science and technology” is a major of national characteristic construction, national management, national Engineering education certification major (2015.1-2023.12), the Ministry of Education” undergraduate teaching engineering” the first batch of comprehensive reform pilot majors in local colleges and universities, the “Twelfth Five-Year” advantage major of Zhejiang undergraduate colleges and universities, and the “Thirteenth Five-Year” advantage major construction project of Zhejiang undergraduate colleges and universities. “Software engineering” is a national excellent Engineer Education and Training Program major, national colleges and universities characteristic specialty construction point specialty, national Engineering education certification major (2019.1-2024.12), Zhejiang province Training Service Outsourcing Talents pilot Major, Zhejiang province ordinary university key major, Zhejiang province undergraduate colleges and universities “13th five-year” advantage professional construction project.

The college has a discipline echelon with reasonable structure, high academic level and research ability, with more than 180 faculty members and more than 150 full-time teachers. There are 23 doctoral supervisors, 35 professors (including 4 distinguished professors), 57 associate professors and 127 teachers with doctoral degrees. The college has 2 people from the Ministry of Education’s “New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan”, 1 person from the Ministry of Education’s National Youth Fund, 1 person from the National Natural Science Foundation’s excellent Youth Fund project,  2 “Qianjiang senior talents” (Distinguished Professors) in Zhejiang Higher education institutions, 1 outstanding contribution expert for young and middle-aged people in Zhejiang province, 3 at the first level and 2 at the second level and 15 at three levels of “151 Talent Project” in Zhejiang province, 9 young and middle-aged academic leaders in Zhejiang province, 1 famous teacher in Zhejiang province and 1 outstanding educator in Zhejiang province. At present, there are more than 2000 undergraduates and more than 590 postgraduates.

In the long-term process of running a school, the college has always been committed to cultivating high-quality talents with development of morality, intelligence, physique and beauty, innovative spirit and practical ability. Students attend in “ACM international college students’ programming competition”, “Zhejiang college students’ programming competition”, “Challenge Cup” National college students’ extracurricular academic science and technology works competition, “Mathematical modeling”, “Electronic Design”, “National embedded system competition”, “Zhejiang college students’ multimedia works design competition” and other academic competitions in China and abroad have achieved good results, showing a high level of basic theory and basic skills, good innovation ability and comprehensive quality. Our students have won the “Computer World scholarship” for more than 10 consecutive years since 2001. In the past three years, more than 400 students have obtained the certificates of system ****yst, software designer or network engineer issued by the state. Graduates have solid knowledge, strong hands-on ability, the high admission rate for the postgraduate entrance examination and good employment quality.

The college has a national Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, which has become an experimental training teaching base with a solid subject Foundation, an advanced experimental teaching system, a first-class environment and a training base for engineering innovation ability. Actively carry out the reform of education and teaching, and obtain 5-second prizes for national teaching achievements, 2 majors with national characteristics, 1 National Excellent engineer education and training program, and 1 national excellent course, there are 5 first prizes for teaching achievements in Zhejiang province, 3 excellent courses in Zhejiang province, and 1 innovative experimental area for talent training mode in colleges and universities in Zhejiang province. The college has also carried out extensive talent training cooperation with Google, EMC, Alibaba, Dongzhong and other well-known international and domestic enterprises. The teaching team of “basic computer courses” became a national teaching team in 2008, and the “Sensor Network Innovation team” became a key scientific and technological innovation team in Zhejiang province in 2009, “industry-oriented embedded key technology research and innovation team” became a key scientific and technological innovation team in Zhejiang province in 2011. 3D key technologies in the industry have become key scientific and technological innovation teams in Zhejiang province in 2012. The same year, “Principles of Computer composition and system structure” was selected into the first batch of national planning textbooks for general higher education in the 12th Five-Year Plan. In May 2012, computer science and technology won the “Twelfth Five-Year” advantage major construction project of Zhejiang undergraduate colleges and universities. In 2013, the National Excellent course “principles of computer composition” was selected as the National Excellent resource sharing course. In September 2014, the major of “network engineering” was approved by the construction project of new characteristic major in ordinary undergraduate colleges and universities in Zhejiang province during the 12th Five-Year Plan.

The college has the national International Science and Technology Cooperation Base (National international joint research center) “brain-computer Collaborative Intelligent Technology international joint research center”, The Key Laboratory of “complex system modeling and simulation” of the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of “audio-visual cognitive health and intelligent image ****ysis and evaluation” of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the former Key Laboratory of Computer Application Technology of the Ministry of Information Industry, the joint Key Laboratory of embedded technology of Zhejiang province, Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Brain-computer collaborative intelligence, Zhejiang network media cloud processing and ****ysis Engineering Technology Research Center, Zhejiang International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of man-machine technology, Zhejiang Internet of Things Science and technology innovation service platform, excellent teaching, scientific research and innovation platforms such as virtual reality laboratory, network Education Technology Laboratory and e-government laboratory specially funded by the Ministry of Finance, participated in the construction of the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for the integration technology of detection instruments and automation systems jointly established by the provincial Department, and cooperated with Fraunhofer company, Google company, savaJe company and other internationally renowned research institutions and enterprises to build joint laboratories or research centers.

After 38 years of construction, the discipline is guided by the major strategic needs of the country and the actual economic construction of Zhejiang, and actively carries out brain science, intelligent manufacturing and industrial internet, media computing and artificial intelligence, cloud computing and big data, military software, software engineering theory and method, software architecture and other fields of theoretical research and application work, and set up brain-computer Collaborative Intelligent technology research, industrial internet research, media intelligence research, cloud technology research and software and intelligent engineering research teams. In the past five years, he has presided over and undertaken a number of National Natural Science Foundation, “973” preliminary special projects, national “863” and “973” sub-projects, the electronic information industry development fund and major science and technology projects in Zhejiang province have won the one-second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, two first prizes of the Zhejiang provincial government science and technology award, one first prize of the Invention Award and two-second prizes, the third prize is 4 items, etc. At present, a number of research results have made positive contributions to the development of China’s information industry and the economic construction of Zhejiang province.

The College further strengthens exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, and works with Fraunhofer IMK Media Research Institute in Germany, German information and automation Research Institute (IFAC), Sydney University of Science and Technology in Australia, Queen’s University of England, University of Rome in Italy, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Yamanashi in Japan, Illinois Institute of Technology in the United States, the University of Kristianstad in Sweden, SKOLVTECH in Russia, National Institute of Information and automation in France, japan’s Institute of Physics and chemistry and other research institutes and universities have established good cooperative relations. Research institutes and universities have established good cooperative relations. More than 20 part-time professors from our college have been employed to give lectures, the number of well-known scholars at home and abroad who have exchanged and cooperated has increased year by year. At the same time, the college supports young teachers to visit and study in universities at home and abroad. In the past five years, the college has held or hosted more than 10 international academic conferences and achieved good results in student exchanges, academic exchanges, joint education, etc.
